You mean the generation you sent off to fight endless wars, crashed the economy on the backs of, drowned in debt by skyrocketing the cost of their education and took away all hope of a functioning government from through your petty squabbling?
Are you fucking KIDDING ME? I’m a cusp kid (end gen x/start of millennial) and can firmly fucking say that this is EXACTLY THE PROBLEM.
STOP BLAMING SHIT ON OTHER PEOPLE. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. THE BOOMERS FOUGHT IN VIETNAM. THEY SAVED MONEY. THEY DIDN’T GO TO COLLEGE IF THEY COULDN’T AFFORD IT AND THEY TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS.
Now the flip side is they are a generation of greed, inequality and conventional ideas, but you know what? At least they didn’t fucking blame everyone else.
But you know what, kid? THEY STOOD THE FUCK UP AND PROTESTED THE VIETNAM WAR. THEY OCCUPIED BUILDINGS. THEY WENT IN DROVES TO WASHINGTON. MANY MARCHED FOR CIVIL RIGHTS WHEN THEY COULD GET FUCKING KILLED FOR IT.
What do you all do? You sit on twitter, facebook and tumblr talking about your “super deep political action ideas” while you comment on how unfair the world is. Wow, you’re all REAL RISK TAKERS, HUH?
IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE FAIR.
Get fucked, seriously.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT? No one SENT YOU TO WAR. YOU MADE THAT CHOICE. Your generation has the goddamn choice and entire generation was sent to war without a fucking choice. Who the fuck are you to shit on that with this bullshit selfishness?
Wow seriously buddy? Gen X sure is one to talk, the 90s were such a hard time to go to college/enter the workforce in weren’t they?
I graduated high school in 2003, the year we invaded Iraq. Many of my friends protested, myself included, many more went to serve. Why? Mostly to pay for college, which costs on average 30%-40% more than it did in 1990. My generation fought and died just to get the right to an affordable education, yours got it handed to you. We did not make the choice to go to war, in fact that vast majority of those who enlisted during wartime (again mostly to get an education or for economic reasons) were not even of voting age in the 2000 presidential election.Despite this we are in fact a generation of activists. Generation Y votes in stronger numbers than any other since the Progressive Generation has in their 20s. We get out and do more volunteer work, are better informed and give back to the community at a higher rate as well.
You’re damned right we’re bitter though. However, once our voice gets heard, unlike Gen X, we’re actually going to do something with it.
So take your Gen X apathy and get bent asshole.
Let’s break down your initial argument because it’s hilarious at best.
1. “Sent off to fight endless wars/pay for school” argument.
Sure. People joined to pay for school. My friends joined to pay for school. But you know what? They all joined knowing THEY MIGHT BE SENT TO WAR. That’s the fucking point of the armed forces, right? No one held a gun to anyone’s heads to fucking join. Here’s the other piece, sport. COLLEGE HAS NEVER BEEN CHEAP. Like our system or not, it’s what’s here. The government never intended to pay for your fucking college education. I have student loan debt because I wanted an education. Deal with it. If people can’t afford it to the point where they join the army that’s their own goddamn problem. If you don’t want loans, don’t go. Here again is your bullshit expectation of “give me what I want or else I’m going to complain about how I had to get it.”
2. “Crashed the economy on the backs of”
I’m guessing you’re not studying economics. The generation of credit card debt comes out of the 80s and 90s when people started spending and stopped saving. And you know what? Your generation is no better. People stopped being able to pay for college because they stopped saving and started spending. You can’t blame a generation for that, blame your fucking parents for their poor fiscal management skills. The economy has crashed more than once, will again, and everyone will at some point be at fault. It’s the ebb and flow of a not entirely free market system that is dysfunctional to begin with. Maybe the boomers should be writing about the crash in the 70s and how unfair it was. Maybe you should cry about it. Maybe your generation should have fucking thought before taking out insane variable interest credit cards and loans. Maybe you should have read the fine fucking print before signing.
3. “Took away all hope of a functioning government”
Yeah, because it was functioning really fucking well before, right? Because it was perfect! Because we should have to hand you everything in such a way that it suits your pleasure. And wow, your super intellectual facebook and tumblr posts are making BIG WAVES, RIGHT? IF ONLY YOU ALL CHANGED YOUR PROFILE PICTURES! WE MIGHT SEE CHANGE! Jesus Christ get over it. Yeah you all turn out to vote…just in Presidential elections. Go look at local election numbers. Not quite the picture you’re painting.
4. Yeah that tech bubble worked out really well. Sure, it was easier to get in, but guess what? We were willing to do more, for less money, and more often. You all think you’re entitled to not just jobs, but high paying jobs. You think because you went to college you somehow deserve a house, an audi, an iphone and an imac. Not only that, gen x actually worked within the rules provided and STILL managed to innovate and make change. When we didn’t like it? We started our own fucking companies. But we didn’t complain. We flipped burgers. We popped pop corn. We cleaned toilets. And when the tech jobs went away people got others jobs. Crappy jobs, but jobs. Your generation? MOM LET ME LIVE AT HOME! PAY MY CELL PHONE BILL! LET ME SIT ON TUMBLR ALL DAY!
Cry about it, junior. Take some responsibility.

How about instead of fighting over who has had it worse, why don’t we realize that each generation is different and have been faced with completely different problems and each generation has created problems for other generations. And generalizing this generation and that generation and all the generations is slightly damaging because there are SO many people who are completely different than Time’s definition of my generation and your definition of yours.
How about no? How about people start owning up to what belongs to them? Your generation will never be able to move on and fin success if no one is accountable. I work in college/higher ed. I deal with students every single day. In a variety of capacities. I’ve had students sit in front of me at 3AM knowing their friend is close to death from alcohol poisoning but still refuse to admit what they ingested because they “don’t snitch” and “don’t want to get in trouble.” This happens every single day on every single campus. Little selfish brat more concerned with their own ass than anyone else. Sorry, we don’t leave people behind. We don’t let our friends go home with strangers. We didn’t blame bad test grades on “how sad” we are. We didn’t demand cell phones or computers. We got fucking jobs. You can get a fucking job. You just have to be willing to flip burgers. But no, your generation is above that, right?
